During the last decade, Argentina experienced many years of energy deficit, meaning it consumed more energy than it produced, especially in natural gas. Considering the country's productive potential from its various basins and, in particular, from the discovery of Vaca Muerta, this data seems contradictory.
At Infodash we systematized the information provided by the Ministry of Economy for the three main phases of the energy production system: supply, transformation, and consumption.
In the case of supply, the dashboard allows you to see its evolution using filters by production type (primary or secondary), energy type, and period. Regarding transformation, we can observe the inputs used and the resulting products from different types of transformation plants, such as oil refineries. Finally, in the case of consumption, we can filter by energy type and year, but also by its purpose (industrial, residential, commercial, among others).
For example, in the case of consumption, we can notice how the "Transportation" sector grew throughout the 1961-2024 period to become the main energy consumer. However, if we filter by natural gas (the type of energy Argentina had to import in recent years), we notice that the main consumers are the industrial and residential sectors. In the event of a supply shortage, we can predict that these will be the main sectors affected.
