Between 2017 and 2018, the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC) together with the various provincial statistics offices carried out an extensive survey on household expenditure. The result is a detailed snapshot that provides relevant information about household behavior regarding their consumption, which is essential for understanding the impact of other indicators or variables on the population, such as inflation.
At Infodash we prepared an interactive dashboard that allows querying the information collected by INDEC regarding the structure of household consumption by product division (food, transportation, health, etc.) or by characteristics of the dwelling or its members.
For example, using the dashboard filters we can observe how the type of expenditure changes. The "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" division occupies the first place in expenditure in the general average (23.6%), but if we filter only for single-member households, the first place goes to "Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels" (20.8%). In the province chart we can see that this type of household is more typical in the City of Buenos Aires, where it represents 20.8% of total household expenditure. In the "Evolution" dashboard we see that this type of consumption gained the most share in recent years, representing 10.8% in 2005 and 14.5% in 2018.
