Since its first implementation in 1973, the Permanent Household Survey (EPH), conducted by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INDEC), has been the primary source for understanding the sociodemographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the population.

Unlike a census, where the entire population is surveyed every 10 years, the EPH is conducted quarterly through sampling -- that is, by surveying a small random portion of the population that, selected under certain parameters, is representative of the whole.

INDEC continuously publishes updates to the EPH, but estimating or understanding the new results requires additional work from the user. At Infodash you can find various interactive and updated dashboards to explore employment and income, population, education, or housing data.

For example, in the "Employment and Income" section, we can immediately see that the unemployment rate in Q1 2024 was 7.7%, and the average per capita income was ARS 369,085. However, it is worth applying some filters to notice certain particularities. If we filter by education level "Completed University", the unemployment rate drops to 3% and per capita income rises to ARS 637,626. On the other hand, regardless of education type, the average per capita income for women is lower than for men, and the same applies to the unemployment rate. Conversely, the economically active population is lower among women than among men.
